Benee wins big at the Aotearoa Music Awards.



Benee cements herself in the Aotearoa Music industry by taking the top awards in her categories for the second year in a row last night at the Aotearoa Music Awards. Auckland indie-pop band The Beths also dominated their categories, taking home the most coveted album of the year.


Benee has had an incredibly successful year with her song Supalonely going viral on Tik-Tok during the first lockdown, boosting her into international fame. The artist came away winning Best Solo Artist, Best Pop Artist, an International Achievement award, and Single of the Year for ‘Supalonely’.


Benee decided to make a bold move during the award ceremony and shared her International Achievement Award with Jawsh 685.





The South Auckland teen Jawsh 685, won the Te Kaituhura Puoro Toa o te Tau - Breakthrough Artist of the Year award for his hit Laxed – Siren Beat which peaked at No 1 in 17 countries after American R&B singer Jason Derulo sampled it for his song Savage Love.


The producer, real name Joshua Nanai made history as the first Pasifika person and first New Zealander to reach Number 1 in the UK Singles Chart.




Another noteworthy award recipient included the Te Kaipuoro Taketake Toa - Best Roots Artist - going to group L.A.B. The trio also took out the Te Kōwhiri o te Nuinga - People’s Choice Award.


Te Rikoata Marakerake o te Tau - NZ On Air Radio Airplay Record of the Year went to Drax Project for their tune 'Catching Feelings" featuring Six60.
