Very sad news to wake up to this morning.
Legendary actor Alan Rickman has died, at the far too early age of 69, following a battle with cancer.
He became one of Britain's best-loved acting stars thanks to roles including Professor Snape in the Harry Potter films, Hans Gruber in Die Hard and many other roles.
Harry Potter author JK Rowling led the tributes, describing him as "a magnificent actor and a wonderful man".
A family statement said: "The actor and director Alan Rickman has died from cancer at the age of 69. He was surrounded by family and friends."
Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe shared an emotional tribute to Rickman, saying he was "undoubtedly one of the greatest actors I will ever work with".
R.I.P. Alan, thanks for making everyone's childhood a little more magical
