Is this Perrie Edwards' musical response to the end of her engagement to Zayn Malik?
Following an Instagram video announcing Little Mix's new single "Shout Out To My Ex," rumors have been flying that the song will give fans insight on the 2015 split that had One Direction and Zerrie fans reeling last year.
Just hours after revealing that they will be releasing the song this Sunday, the girls posted a photo with the caption: "Took four years to call it quits, forget that boy I'm over it."
What could they be talking about...?
Zayn and Perrie were first linked as a couple in fall 2011, they got engaged in 2013 andofficially broke up in August 2015 amid rumors that Malik—who left 1D in March 2015—had cheated.
While no lyrics beyond this one have been independently confirmed, The Daily Mail has reported that the song will feature a variety of lines that are potential digs at the now solo Zayn, including references to his Perrie tattoo (which he recently had removed).
"Guess I should say thank you, For the 'hate yous' and the tattoos, Oh baby I'm cool by the way, Ain't sure I loved you anyway," the Edwards supposedly sings.
Moreover, per the Mail, Edwards supposedly pokes fun at her ex's skills in the bedroom and references his new girlfriendGigi Hadid, teasing, "I hope she gettin' better sex, Hope she ain't fakin' it like I did, babe."
"Shout Out To My Ex" will be the first single off of Little Mix's fourth album, which is set for release this November.
"It's very—and I know we probably said this about the last album—honest. It's very what's been happening in the past few months or the past year," Perrie toldSugarscape in a recent interview. "It's like therapy."
Does that mean we will soon have more information about what really went down between Zayn and Perrie? We can only hope.
