The Lonely Island celebrate Wonder Woman, Pennywise, and more with a brilliant song

The Academy may have forgotten about 2017's most beloved blockbusters, but the Lonely Island sure hasn't.

The comedy pop trio has released a demo for a never-used Oscars song that pays respect to some of last year's under-awarded hits, including Thor: Ragnarok, Wonder Woman, It, and Girls Trip.

There's even a shoutout to Hollywood's best Chris's, which is how you know they're tuned into the popular culture of our time.

As the group explained on Twitter, they'd been asked to write a song for this year's ceremony, only to be told that "Why Not Me?" was too expensive and logistically complicated.

It's too bad, because this would've killed. Just imagine Chris Hemsworth lending his voice to Thor's angst, or Tiffany Haddish pointing out that she's done stuff Meryl Streep could never even dream of.

Oh well. Looks like we'll have to settle for this storyboard demo – just like Wonder Woman and Pennywise have to settle for all that box-office money.
