Christmas movies you should watch in 2019

Yes, it is that time of year... The time of year where we must empty our bank accounts on our loved ones, and pretend to be happy when Aunt Ruthie comes to town...

However, the best way to shut the family up? Christmas movies! I, for one, am a sucker for a good Christmas movie, and by now I feel like I've watched them all a million times. From the classics, to the newer sappy romance tales, there's something for everyone!

Here's some of Q's favourite movies for this holiday season, as well some fresh new movies coming out in time for Christmas!

1 - Elf (2003)

Anyone that says they don't love Elf is probably lying to you. After talking to a couple of people around Q97, I can confirm that it not only my favourite Christmas movie! This is definitely on my watch list every year for Christmas.

In the movie, Buddy is just a young orphan before he ends up in the North Pole. He grows up believing he is an elf, but always wondered why he is so much bigger than a normal elf. Buddy sets off to find his real father, after he finds out the truth, only to find out his dad is on the naughty list!

Elf is such a cute, comedy-style Christmas movie, and great for the whole family (or flat)

2 - The Polar Express (2004)

This was my go-to Christmas movie as a kid, after I got gifted it on DVD one year (I know... DVD!) The movie tells the story of young boy, who board the Polar Express train to the North Pole, and discovers the true spirit of Christmas.

Honestly I am so excited for the day that I have kids to get excited about this movie with! With this being more of a family movie, its the easiest movie to get you into the Christmas spirit!

3 - Home Alone (1990)

Okay, for this one we are strictly talking about the original, not the sequels. Home Alone is another one of the station's favourite Christmas movies - and it is such a classic.

An eight-year-old troublemaker must protect his house from a pair of burglars when he is accidentally left home alone by his family during Christmas vacation.

This is the perfect movie to distract the kids from grandpa snoring, or a great way to bond with your flatties this holiday season!

4 - Noelle (2019)

Get your Disney+ subscriptions ready, there's Christmas coming! Noelle, featuring our favourite Pitch Perfect star Anna Kendrick, is this year's upcoming Christmas movie to watch!

Kris Kringle's daughter is full of Christmas spirit and holiday fun, but wishes she could do something "important" like her beloved brother Nick, who will take over for their father this Christmas. Nick is training to be Santa, but is failing miserably. When Nick is about to crumble from all the pressure, Noelle suggests he take a break and get away to clear his head...but then he doesn't return.

I feel like this movie could secretly steal your heart this holiday season!

5 - The Grinch (2018)

A cartoon take on "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is our number 5 must watch Christmas movie. Want something a bit more kid friendly, or just want to watch some cartoon Christmas, this one is definitely for you.

Following the storyline written by Dr. Seuss (classic): The Grinch grows increasingly annoyed with the ever-growing festive cheer that engulfs the village of Whoville. So, he teams up with his dog to ruin the festive spirit by playing spoilsport.

Definitely a good laugh for the flat family, or your actual family, or even just a cozy night with friends.

These are just a few of our favourites this holiday season; there's just way too many to mention in one small blog!
