Kiwi Artist Jawsh 685 Hits Number 1 on the US Charts
Upcoming Kiwi teen Joshua Nanai, commonly known as Jawsh 685, has beaten all odds and hit number one on the US Charts with his smash-hit 'Siren Beat'.
The 17-year old NZ born producer's beat is a remix of Savage Love (laxed - Siren Beat) and features K-Pop group BTS and Jason Derulo. His track has reached the number 1 spot of the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart, adding to the current success of the original Savage Love (Laxed - Siren Beat), which has had one billion combined streams worldwide, platinum status in several countries including the US, NZ, UK, Germany and Canada, and has also topped theSpotify, iTunes and Shazaam charts.
In a statement by Joshua provided by his record label Sony Music, he says this accomplishment blows his mind. "This actually blows my mind to be US number 1. A kid from South Auckland y'know, showing other kids you can do it, any street you're from, anywhere. You can do it, believe in yourself, you can do it. Trust me."
Jawsh 685 originally posted his Laxed (Siren Beat) on Youtube, before it hit worldwide fame on Tik Tok, and then picked up by Jason Derulo.
There was an initial controversy when Derulo failed to credit Jawsh 685 for using his beat, but the two resolved their issues and collaborated on the single Savage Love, which incorporates his beat.
In his Instagram post, Jawsh 685 says "Just to start off, just wanna thank God for the blessing and opportunity to make this happen for me, @jasonderulo & @bts.bighitofficial," he wrote. He also thanked his team in the US, his management and his fans for the success.
Jawsh 685 is nominated for single and breakthrough artist of the year at the Aotearoa Music Awards, and we wish him all the best for his career.
