Rainy Day School Holiday Activities

The school holidays are a great chance to spend some time with your family and we have some activity suggestions for when the weather is bad or you just want to spend some time indoors.

These fun, affordable activities are a great way to pass the time, check them out below!

Have an indoor picnic

Find a picnic rug or any suitable blanket you can find (make sure to ask your parents that it's okay to eat on) find some snacks and pop them in a picnic basket or box and enjoy an indoor picnic.

Bake Something

Baking is a very satisfying way to keep busy during school holidays. You pass the time by getting all the ingredients together, mixing them up and then you can eat the tasty results at the end! Why not try this classic cheese and onion scone recipe from www.chelsea.co.nz

1 1/2 cups Self Raising Flour 1/4 Teaspoon Salt 25g Butter 1 cup grated Cheese 1 small onion very finely chopped 1/4 cup Milk approximately

1. Sift Self Raising Flour and salt into a bowl. Rub in Butter, add cheese and onion. 2. Pour nearly all of the Milk in at once. Mix to a soft dough. Add more milk if the dough is dry. Place on a floured surface and knead lightly. 3. Pat out to about 2cm thickness, cut into rounds. 4. Place on a greased and floured oven tray, bake in a hot oven (220deg C) for 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Enjoy!

Read a book

Pick up a new book or a favourite book and find a nice quiet spot in the house and see how the time flies when you get stuck into reading. It's a fun way to learn new things or to see what your imagination can come up with while you're reading.

Play a board game

Pick a board game you love and if you don't have any at home usually the local op shops do. A good way to spend time with your family is sitting down together and playing a fun board game (Just make sure you don't get too competitive and flip the board.)

Do some arts and crafts

Get creative, you don't need flash equipment to have fun, you can use household items like empty paper towel or toilet paper rolls, egg cartons, tin foil or anything else around and see what you can come up with!

Build a fort

Gather sheets, blankets and pillows and something to hold them up like dining chairs or the couch. Decorate it with your pillows and fairy lights if you have any and enjoy having your own cosy space. You can enjoy all the above activities in your fort!
