Youth Weeks Kicks Off in the Eastern Bay!
Youth week has kicked off this week, a week dedicated to our youth in the Bay of Plenty to celebrate their successes and passions. (Basically, it's a week dedicated to us and we're here for it!)
This week the Eastern Bay will be treated to a number of events celebrating rangatahi - with Te Puna Ora o Mataatua (TPOOM) leading the way with some wicked events planned this week.
Over the weekend, TPOOM hosted a special Mother's Day brunch at Mataatua Wharenui for around 30 mothers, god mothers, aunts and motherly figures - and was a great success! The team really enjoyed hosting such amazing whanau, and they're excited to be bringing you more events of the coming weeks.
So, what have we got to look forward to this week?
Not sure what you want to do with your future? Or, do you know what you want to do, but not sure how to get there? We've got Careers Expo being held at Whakatane High School with lots of local businesses coming down to show you what they've got! We have got inside information that TPOOM will have a Covid-19 Zombie Apocolypse escape room to try out, and lots of epic prizes to go for!
TPOOM officially launched their Ka Hao Te Rangatahi evenings as of Friday last week, with the next one scheduled for this Friday! Pop on down to King Street and enjoy the sounds of Lionyze, enjoy a snag off the barbie and more spot prizes to give away!
They'll be wrapping up Youth Week with Kaupapa Maori workships at Liberty Church on Saturday. You can get involved in several workshops, including Maori-designed earrings, rongoa, mirimiri and pounamu - plus there's a free hangi for all those who attend.
The Whakatane Youth Council have also got on board for the Youth Week celebrations - and they want to hear from you! They've put a survey on their Facebook to find out what you want prioritised in our community, and to realign their activities for what we want in the Bay of Plenty. In trade for your opinion, you can go in the draw for some epic prizes, so let your voice be heard!
We hope you're as excited as we are for these epic events for Youth Week!
